WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO USE THE STUDENT HEALTH CENTER?
The Student Health Fee covers offerings available through NIU Health Services, which provides a level of basic outpatient health care similar to what you might find at an urgent care facility or your primary care physician’s office.
ADDITIONAL CHARGES
There are some charges associated with a visit to the Student Health Center that are not included in your student fees. Our practice operations supervisor can assist with billing questions.
Medical services provided at the Student Health Center include*:
ACCEPTED INSURANCE
Northwestern Medicine accepts a wide variety of insurance plans, including a significant number of health insurance plans currently held by NIU students (including Aetna Student Health Insurance, Medicaid and many others). For a full listing of insurance accepted, visit nm.org/insurance.
Please note that the Student Health Center does cover medical care provided elsewhere. You are responsible for those costs. Check your NIU Student Health Insurance and/or private health insurance plan to determine if expenses are reimbursable.

- Unlimited student office visits with a healthcare provider (for evaluation and management of your care)
- X-rays

- General medical care, including cold, fever, flu, respiratory ailments
- Women’s health appointments, including pap smears
- NIU-required physical exams
- Screening for sexually transmitted infections
- Immunizations
- Urgent care appointments (sick visits and minor injuries)
- Referrals to specialists
- TelePsychiatry
